In order to help you succeed in your singing career there are some novice mistakes you will want to avoid. Just being aware of them is often all it takes for you to make the necessary changes. Here is a list of common mistakes pointed out by Nadel Paris an EDM artist; vocalists make that make them look unprofessional.
Not knowing what the next song is going to be. There's nothing worse than not knowing what the upcoming song is during a performance. Being unsure of your song list creates discomfort in your audience and makes you appear unprofessional. Keep a song list on a music stand or on the floor so when you finish a tune you can quickly introduce the next one. This practice makes you look confident and in command of your band. Being unsure of how to direct a band. If you are the lead singer, you should be able to count the band in at the beginning of songs. You also need to be experienced in directing the band for song endings. Many female singers leave this to the drummer or some other musician in the band. Not all songs require a count in, but there are tunes where you should be the one to start. Signalling with a wave of your arm when to end a song creates theatrics and looks great from an audience's perspective. If you're not sure how to do this watch live concerts or check out local bands. Tell your bandmates that this is something you would like to incorporate into your stage performance. Dressing inappropriately. Whether you like it or not, your audience is making judgements about you. Unfortunately, women are scrutinized much more than men. If you're already famous, you can get away with anything. But if you're not, it is important to ensure that your clothing is appropriate for the venue you are performing in. A bar atmosphere allows for a much more casual attire than a restaurant or corporate event. If you are unsure, inquire beforehand about what the dress code is. Not speaking between songs. Silence isn't golden when it comes to performing. Even if you have great songs and a fantastic sounding band, your audience wants to hear what you have to say. Get into the habit of telling stories about specific songs. You can talk about the song itself or something about the composer. If you have an original band, let the audience in on why you wrote that song or a particularly odd thing about the tune. Not knowing what to do with your hands. This is a common problem with beginning vocalists. Most of the times a singer holds the mic with one hand while the other hand is free (unless you play an instrument). Not knowing what to do with the free hand can feel and look awkward. Study what other female singers do with their hands and emulate them. Practice at home in front of a mirror then implement your movements into your rehearsal. Start with small movements like holding the microphone stand, moving the mic from hand to hand or waving your arms around to accentuate certain parts of the song. As you gain confidence with your hand movements you will begin to feel and look more natural. Not connecting with your audience. Learning to connect with your audience is a skill that great entertainers work hard at. They understand that if there is no connection between themselves and the audience, they will quickly be forgotten once people leave their venue. Many artists believe that their talent alone will attract fans. The truth is that true fans are made when they feel a connection with the singer. A simple technique to help you connect is to look people directly in the eyes for just a few seconds. Scan around the room and make eye contact with people who are listening. This makes people feel special - that you are signing directly to them. Not being prepared. This may be the last point but it is by far the most important one. Successful female singers always make sure that they are well prepared before hitting the stage. This includes warming up your voice and being very familiar with your songs. Leave yourself lots of time before you perform to get to your gig so you won't be stressed out. Nadel Paris says that these common mistakes can all be avoided by making a checklist of the areas you need to improve on. Some areas are easy to correct while others take time and practice. As you persevere, you will become a better performer and project professionalism while you are on stage. If you would like to know how to compose a song, you do not necessarily need to have the talent of a music genius. Below are tips and ideas by Nadel Paris to follow so that song writing can be done successfully and productively: Writing The Lyrics A number of musicians write both lyrics and melodies of their compositions. Some people also find it easier to write the lyrics first and then the melody. In writing the lyrics, you have to determine the kinds of words you would like your song to focus on. In writing the lyrics, you also need to consider the timing or the length of notes that will best suit each other. In making your lyrics, also pay attention to specific words that you like to put more emphasis on. Emphasis can be made by assigning a louder note with the words, altering the note or adding a rest after each note. Since you are the composer you are free to experiment with your song so that you can see which sounds can give the best effect on your song. Listening/Learning From Other Musicians/Composers Every band, singer or composer has something to teach others. Listening to their songs and compositions will help you in learning how they construct songs. You will be able to discover how a composer puts together tones, styles, instruments, etc. in creating a wonderful composition. In other words, you can collect many useful ideas from them and use them on your own songs. Other Musical Inspiration As mentioned earlier, listening to other people's works can give you ideas and inspiration. Aside from this option, there are also other relevant sources of inspiration you can look from. Look around you and you will see many inspirational things like emotions, life experiences, nature, situations, etc. Try to put yourself in these inspirational instances. For example, if you choose life experiences of other people as inspiration, try to visualize yourself in that encounter and think of what emotions it evoked in you. You may also stroll around the park or in your neighborhood to gather inspiration. Using Composition Software Software is a tool that you can consider as your best buddy in composing songs. The songwriting process can be greatly aided by software programs. Your work may be organized and you will be allowed to see/hear what you play. Choosing a good quality software application offers valuable features like a metronome for keeping the beat. Another feature is playback so you can listen to what you have just composed. With this program, you can conveniently hook a microphone or an instrument to the computer for easy song notation. Having Fun In Songwriting You ventured on songwriting because you love music in the first place. However, there will come a time when you would feel greatly overwhelmed that writing songs may seem lacking in enjoyment for you. What you can do is to do some other activities for a time to refresh yourself. Remember to always do what you love, what makes you happy and what you do best. Also read: The Diversity of Asian Music by Nadel Paris Country music lyrics are blasting on urban music stations as younger American trying to escape the emergence of bad pop and even awful pop music turn to this stable genre. Country music is currently gaining on rock as the second most popular music format on American radio stations. It is right behind hip hop in terms of people’s ability to identify a feel, a demographic, and a sense of rebellion when they hear the lyrics on many songs.
Nadel Paris an EDM artist observes that if you look back into early to mid 90’s it seemed that country music was on the decline. In fact, if you look at some of the popular hits from Shania Twain and even “I will always love you” by Whitney Houston, country music lyrics could only be heard by crossover pop artists. I’m sure that many in the industry thought this would be the end of great commercial successes for modern country artists. Fortunately, the Nashville establishment held on to their traditions and developed a new set of country artists that would appeal to young urban listeners. So why didn’t they stray and turn country music into a subgenre of crappy pop? The answer lies in the lessons of the 1980’s. Country music went through a moment as the “it music” during the early to mid 1980’s with detrimental results. There were more stars, doing more tours and making more money than ever before, but the most popular country music lyrics at the time did not reflect the geographic sensibilities of the south. They became caricatures selling urbanites on the exotic possibilities of redneck culture and vain beauty queens. The Nashville gatekeepers learned a very painful lesson. Pop culture mangles, destroys, and makes fun of anything that comes in its path. They learned that:
So where does this lead modern country? Still on the forefront, experimenting with country-rock and Rhythm and blues collaborations. It certainly is a good time for country music and an even better time for country music fans. Click here to learn more! Rockabilly music should maybe have never come into existence. After all, the music is a blend of country, blues, rhythm and blues, and gospel styles all mashed together to create a unique sound. And who would have ever thought to combine these varied styles, let alone thought that the resulting music might actually become popular and eventually be responsible for millions of record sales? Well, luckily for rockabilly and rock and roll fans, there were people back in the 1950s who were willing to do just that type of experimentation and they've left us a wonderfully rich musical legacy! As it turns out, there were actually quite a number of people experimenting with the music that eventually formed into rockabilly. Black R&B artists had been performing and recording increasingly rocked-up songs that were coming very close to the rockabilly sound even back into the 1940s. These players were experimenting with guitar sounds and styles, a much more aggressive drumming style, and the slap-bass style that has become so ubiquitous with rockabilly music. As ahead of their time as these musicians might have been, it also took white musicians willing to experiment to move the music forward. In those times of racial discrimination in the American South, these black musicians were not able to break their music into the wider and more lucrative white radio markets that would have brought them more success and money. Most stations operated by whites wouldn't play this "race" music, no matter how good it was. But by the late 1940s, white musicians were also starting to create music that foreshadowed rock and roll. Some people argue that The Maddox Brothers and Rose were creating rockabilly music even before the 50s decade began. Indeed, Rose Maddox went on to record some great rockabilly tracks after the style had really caught on. Bill Haley and His Comets, while not strictly rockabilly, were also breaking his new R&B-influenced style to the American listening public in the early 50s. But it took a visionary independent record label owner and three inventive musicians named Bill Black, Scotty Moore, and Elvis Presley to really break rockabilly music into the musical mainstream. Sam Phillips started the Sun Record label in Memphis, Tennessee in order to release the music he'd been recording in this studio since 1950. At first the music he recorded was mostly blues played by black performers. Phillips, who was white, was willing to experiment with not only recording techniques, but also with the idea of a white man in the deep south running a business that treated black musicians fairly and honestly. But he was also on the lookout for a white artist with a sound like the black artists had. He found that one day when one of his newly signed musicians, Elvis, started letting off some steam during a session by singing a wild version of the R&B song "That's All Right". Phillips loved what he heard when Moore and Black joined in with Presley and they ended up recording the first commercially successful rockabilly tracks--another bold experiment. Of course, the experiment obviously paid off, Elvis rocketed up the charts to superstardom, and rock and roll was here to stay! Nadel Paris an EDM artist is a jack of all trades; an accomplished singer, producer and writer. Nadel writes about music and its various genres, other related topics and shares her experience she has over the years. She provides expert advice and tips regarding every aspects of music genre through her blogs. Below are some effective tips suggested by Nadel Paris on how to improve your technical agility. One of the main abilities a musician must have is to have command of the technical aspects of his/her instrument. 1) Play everything slowly "Slow is the same as fast". Maybe you've heard of that phrase. All movements that you make while playing rapid passages must have the same relaxed feeling as though you were playing slowly. What better way to do that than practicing slowly? You'll have to practice slowly and do NOT increase the tempo at any time! Breathe relaxed, concentrate but don't let your muscles stressed or tight in any way. Practicing slowly gives you a chance to hear the music exactly, listen intensively and therefore make your brain learn it "inside-out". 2) Concentrate on problem areas Learn to isolate difficult passages. Listen into them. Figure them out harmonically, mechanically and rhythmically. After your practiced the difficult passage, connect it back to the music a few measure before and after. This way you are de-isolating the passage back into the music. 3) Remember, it's about making music If something has NOTHING to do with music, we shouldn't practice it. Think about it. When you practice your major scales, why do you do it? Possible answer are "To better my technique", "To gain mastery of my instrument", "to learn to hear the major key", "to improve my intonation", etc. Such answer as "because it's my homework" or "because my teacher said so" are weak answers and they are NOT going to inspire us to make good music. We need better answers. If an exercise is boring you, ask yourself "Why am I practicing this?" Look for an answer that is going to motivate you! If you don't come up with one, LOOK for one! Call a friend or ask your teacher! Do something! Give yourself good reasons and the HOW will take care of itself. 4) Practice with rhythmic variations If you're practicing even scale material, instead of repeating an exercise over and over again the same way (and possibly boring yourself), try playing it with different rhythms. For example:
What does this do? You've played the same exercise 24 times without it getting boring. You've learned to hear this combination of notes in different rhythms, which aids you to hear deeper into the notes. The speed of the fingers between the notes has varied, eventually strengthening your technique. If you practice your technical exercises with this method, you'll reach desired results faster than you have had in the past. You'll accomplish a lot more in less time. 5) Learn how to take a break Practicing 6 hours a day, 7 days a week can be great if you have time to afford yourself this luxury. If you do, Nadel Paris advice is DON'T DO IT! After spending so much time to learn new techniques, new repertoire, new whatever, and you can destroy it all by practicing too much! The brain can only take in some much information at a time and it does it best "piece by piece", in small relaxed dosages. Even then, the brain needs a rest. Saxophonist Phil Woods has been said the he always plans a day NOT to practice. This day for him is Sunday. He goes fishing. He even stays away from music on this day. It's good advice to follow. Plan a day right now that you will NOT practice. Learn to relax. Do something else on that day. As a musician, there are many ways that your work can be used. Music licensing can help you to protect your work, increase your income, gain industry exposure, and expand your creative works. Consider the many benefits discussed by Nadel Paris and EDM artist, of licensing for your work to help boost your career. Increased Income It is nice to have ideals and another source of income which allows you the luxury of concentrating on your music for the pure enjoyment of simply creating it and maintaining the music rights yourself, but if you are planning to make a career out of making music, you want to find ways to increase your income and give you a livable income from your music. You took all the time to learn how to make music, so take time to increase your income to make all that learning worthwhile. By the licensing of music that you hold the copyright to can boost your sources of income. Combined Knowledge A licensing company may have a large clientele of musicians and customers who are looking to serve a variety of purposes. Obtaining licensing allows you to share what you have created with the right connections, as these licensing companies have connections and exposure on a much broader scale than you have as an individual musician. Property Rights If you are the original copyright holder for your music, you have the right to assign that usage to whomever you please. In the United States, copyright is protected as soon as the music is written down in any kind of tangible form-though this may not hold true in other countries. When you have the power to assign licensing rights, you can choose who you want to have usage rights. By licensing your music, you are not only opening up possibilities for exposure, but your work will be further protected by the licensed rights. Protect Your Music With all the battles over music rights and the controversy over illegal or unlicensed downloading and copying, licensing will further protect your creations from being distributed in ways you haven't approved. Music is an expression of your creativity, and you put your heart into its creation. The last thing you want is people taking your work and using it to suit their own purposes. Make a Mark The music industry, like any of the arts, is competitive and hard to break into or make a living from. Your music may be phenomenal, unique, creative, marketable, or of the highest quality, but unless you get your name and work known, all the talent and skills in the world are not worth much in a commercial venture. You have to be known, in order to sell your work. Companies that offer to license music provide a wider avenue for exposure for you and your creations. Distribution: Expand Your Horizons You may have an in with certain music contacts, but there are many ways to get it purchased, listened to and performed. Music is used in movies, TV, in public settings, radio, and online. You need the right connections and exposure to expand your horizons to encompass all of these possible venues for your creations. Music licensing can help you to make the connections you wouldn't be able to make on your own. Ensure that all your efforts and artistic musical creations have merit and value and get licensing for all your hard work. You'll be able to gain exposure, protect your work, and increase your income from your creative ventures. EDM artist Nadel Paris is a jack of all trades; an accomplished singer, producer and writer. Also read: Learning Styles Of Music by Nadel Paris Guitar music is available in a wide variety of styles.
Not only are there a large number of different types of guitars, but there are a variety of methods to play them, making guitar music most versatile. Most guitar music is played on either a solid body electric or an acoustic dreadnought, but there are also specialty guitars, such as 12-string guitars with their lovely ringing sound. Most popular music styles also rely heavily on guitar music. Country music has traditionally been played on an acoustic guitar, but in recent years country has employed more rock-style electric guitar music. Rock music got it's start with electric guitars, but has featured occasional acoustic music from time to time. Jazz music can certainly be done without using guitar music, but the guitarist is usually an important part of a jazz combo, usually playing an electric guitar. Blues music, an off shoot from jazz, can be played on either an acoustic or an electric guitar. In addition, all types benefit from a driving bass guitar added to the mix. Guitar music is an important part of the ethnic music of many parts of the world. From the strumming cowboy beside the chuck wagon to the flat-picking hillbilly to the young girl singing folk songs, guitar music is integral to the American culture. But it is also found in the Philippines, Spain, Italy, Mexico, and even in the Celtic folk music of the British Isles. In fact, the guitar as we know it today is probably more the product of the Spaniards and their native music than from any other cultural group. The portability of the guitar and the ease in which it can be learned makes it the most popular musical instrument in the world. Classical music has been written for the guitar for years. A quiet recording of classical guitar music makes a nice mood setter for a quiet get together with friends. Look for the Baroque works of Bach and others adapted for guitar, or find music written specifically for the guitar and played by a master like Andre Segovia. Instead of a classical sound as mood music for a small party, you could put on a compact disc of instrumental bluegrass guitar music for an earthy country feel that goes well with country decor and natural food. In the same way, a CD of stylin' jazz guitar music fits into the urban scene. You can find all sorts of guitar music online, but downloading any music from music sharing sites is a bad idea, since some music sharers are being arrested for copyright violations. If money is a problem, look for the music you want at second-hand sites or discount price outlets. Another alternative is to brush up on your own guitar playing skills and make your very own special brand of guitar music. You'll find that Internet resources abound for learning how to play guitar with online guitar lessons. Nadel Paris is an EDM artist and a music producer. Nadel writes about music and its various genres, related topics and shares her experience she has gained over the years. She offers expert advice and great tips for all aspects of music genre through her blog http://nadelparis.jimdo.com/. Owning a music collection is no doubt a beautiful thing. Having personal copies of your favorite blues, folk, music videos and emo songs is reassuring that you hold what you love. But how do you go about making a personal music collection? EDM artist Nadel Paris discusses this subject here. It is quite simple. The best way to go about it is to start early. Buying music is the best way to start your own collection. It is a good idea to always window shop before proceeding with a transaction as original music is a bit costly. It gives you the choice to own as much music as you would like. It affords you with the opportunity to own either blues, folk or indie music. The choice is yours. Your local music store is a good place to buy music. Check it out from time to time to see what is new. Visit different shops when you have the time just to sample what is available. You might be lucky to get what you like at a very affordable price. When shopping for your collection, make sure that you are dealing with original or authentic music. Take care when the deal is too good, you could be getting fake music of your best music video, alternative or folk songs. Aim to have what you absolutely love. There is no point of spending a fortune on what you are never going to listen to. The internet is one of the best places to buy music as well. Get what you like online by checking out hundreds of sites that sell music online. You only need to get the details of the album you need right and you are set. Confusing the name of the album or artist by even a letter might get you what you never intended to purchase. It is good to be careful when giving out these details. Take your time to sample tones of music available for sale online. You might get something you really like. Sampling music from time to time is a good way of enriching your collection. It gives you the opportunity to get songs, music videos, emo or folk songs from other parts of the world that you might really love. If you are the lucky type, you can own a music collection by inheritance. This is only cool if you share the same taste with the person giving it to you. You can get music as a present or gift which is one way of enhancing your collection as well. However, chances of acquiring your best blues, emo or indie songs in this way are simply astronomical. Not everyone gets the privilege to buy music to make or add to their collection. All is not lost as you can download your favorite music videos, emo, folk or alternative songs at licensed sites on the internet. This is available at a small fee or no charge at all. However, make sure you do it legally to avoid getting in trouble. For more reading, please visit here: https://medium.com/@NadelParis |
